the punx and Scion

We all know that Scion has been sponsoring and throwing sizable concerts/shows, featuring a wide spectrum of bands and artists. This isn’t new news, but in July 2012 the automobile company sponsored a showcase featuring the bands on Canadian-based digital punk label, Moshpit Tragedy. It boggles my mind that bands with supposed radical politics, having a strong stance against corporate influence, would associate with these sort of events and companies. Moshpit Tragedy has a lot of respectable bands on their roster, and their pay-what-you-want download policy is great. Yes, artists need to eat and pay rent. I’m not saying that making money is bad. My point is, its really disconcerting when a bunch of  punk bands singing about “fuck the system,” they’re playing a concert that is ultimately an advertising campaign for an international corporation. “The Scion brand often applies new practices in all aspects of its business and pushes the creativity envelope with non-traditional advertising and marketing to engage young consumers.” Do what you want, but at the end if the day it’s bowl of cheese.
